Local Collections

This collection offers
unique opportunities for
land owners and managers in the Gulf Coast
Prairie Region. It features

several species specially
adapted to the region. As
expected, Little Bluestem
is the main component of
this collection.

The Smiley Prairie
Collection was harvested
from remnant Blackland
Prairie in Northeast
Texas. Silveus dropseed
(Sporobolus silveanus)
and Longspike Tridens

(Tridens strictus) both
have stands in the remnant prairie. These unique
seeds are not currently
commercially available—
except in the Smiley
Prairie Collection.
