Reclamation seed is ideal for restoring, rehabilitating, or improving degraded, damaged, or disturbed soils. Common projects for reclamation seed include:

To prepare your site for planting a reclamation seed mix, follow these instructions:

1. Plant a cover crop to reduce future weed pressure.
2. If planting a cover crop is not feasible, ensure a weed free seedbed with either mechanical or chemical termination of existing vegetation.
3. Plant your grasses when soil temperatures reach 65 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. If weed pressure is minimal, you can also plant forbs and legumes.
4. Plant forbs and legumes once grasses are established and weed pressure is minimized. 

You can use a drilling or broadcasting method for planting seed.

No irrigation is not required, but it is helpful to provide your prairie seed mix with irrigation during establishment.

If irrigation is available, fill the soil profile to field capacity prior to planting. After planting, frequent shallow watering is recommended until the seedlings are established and have begun to develop a secondary root system. During these waterings, there should not be water standing or running off at any time.

Once that secondary root system is well established, reduce the frequency of waterings and increase their depth. After full establishment, the only time irrigation will be needed is during dry spells when active growth is needed.

How long it takes reclamation seeds to mature depends largely on the type of seeds you are planting. Most native species will germinate in ten to fourteen days if soil temperatures are above 65 degrees Fahrenheit and have adequate soil moisture.
