Also known as “Shoe-strings” and “Spicebush.”
The name, “Lead-plant,” refers to the leaden hue of the leaves.
This is an erect or ascending shrub 1–3.5 ft. tall, leafy to the base, more or less densely gray-canescent throughout.
Flowers June to July.
Adapted to sandy or gravelly soils in sunny places.
Useful as wildlife food, but is rarely grazed by livestock.
