DETAILS:
A medium sized tree with an irregular, spreading crown.
Trunk and branches are extremely thorny. The thorns are very rigid, sharp, and can be solitary or branched into three.
Flowers May to June, with the seedpods ripening September to October.
Can grow in a variety of soils but prefers rich moist soil.
The seedpods are eaten by cattle, whitetail deer, and other wildlife species.
