DETAILS:

  • A medium sized tree with an irregular, spreading crown.
  • Trunk and branches are extremely thorny. The thorns are very rigid, sharp, and can be solitary or branched into three.
  • Flowers May to June, with the seedpods ripening September to October.
  • Can grow in a variety of soils but prefers rich moist soil.
  • The seedpods are eaten by cattle, whitetail deer, and other wildlife species.
