  • Resembles an overgrown tobosa, both growing from rough, scaly rhizomes.
  • The main difference between the two is galleta has awns on each glume (4-5 mm) whereas, tobosa grass does not.
  • Often burned to increase its palatability to livestock.
  • Adapted to dry plains and dry slopes.
  • Found primarily in the western Texas panhandle.
