Common name, “Eastern cottonwood”.
This deciduous tree can grow up to 100 feet tall and obtain an 8-foot diameter trunk.
Flowers February to May, with fruit ripening May to June.
The leaves are browsed by livestock, deer, and rabbits. The seeds are eaten by a variety of birds; turkey prefer this tree for roosting.
Adapted to rich, moist soils along streams, rivers, and creeks.
