Adapted to sandy, gravelly soils on prairies, in open fields, and woodland openings and edges.
This wildflower bears many flowers during the bloom period, but there are never many open at one time. The flowers open early in the morning and last for one day. They seem to be most fragile and very delicately attached. The stems are grooved or furrowed.
Fair browse for deer and antelope. Little value to livestock.
